black like me 38-52
I thought it was perfectly put when griffin said "The negro is treated not even as a second class citizen, but as a tenth class one". I don't understand the thought process of anyone who contributed to making that happen back then but it was put how it was, to be a second class citizen you have to at least be thought of as something of meaning, other than trash or tools. Negros were treated far past "less than" making every one of them in the south wake up knowing they were considered nothing at all, a ten class citizen, criminals, rapists, drug addicts, and any other negative thing. It's immoral.

I was surprised that it was easy for him to get rides when hitch hiking being black especially being in Mississippi although it still seemed it wasn't out of care or worry, but still for what they could get out of him not including the man from Massachusets thats the only sane one in the area.

black like me 53-77
I thought it was interesting but different how much the black community bonded and attached themselves to each other once entering Mississippi. Like the man worrying about him having a place to stay and giving him different sources to go to that would be expecting him. Also warning him of everything and anything different from his previous residence how negroes "should" act in mississippi without getting bothered or beaten, even offering him to find a nice woman for him so he doesn't get "burned"... As if they had been friends for years.

The shoe shiner was the first real friend griffith made that was negro and helped him with what to do for money, restrooms, and a place to stay; also, griffith confided in him about his expirament. I think from how the guy reacted when griffith made him realize the change and how he talked to him it shows he's a nice guy. You can tell he cares for others like at the scene of talking about how the begger beneath them wouldn't probably make it everyday if it weren't for his and joe's leftovers. Also the man kind of took him under his wing telling him things, and showing him around town although knowing he was walking with a white man.
